The stage is set for the Champions League final in Munich, and it is a final to look forward to. Not many were expecting Inter and PSG to be the teams contesting the trophy, but they have more than earned their place here. However, the winner can be only one, and the other will walk away with a loss. Will PSG finally win the elusive Champions League, or will Inter add a 4th UCL trophy to the cabinet?
PSG Team News
Luis Enrique has managed to navigate PSG to the UCL final and has a chance to write his name in the Parisians’ history as the first manager to win them this elusive trophy. To an extent, it is rather ironic that PSG had to part ways with their biggest megastars like Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Messi, to get another shot at a final, but this could also be a testament to the work Enrique has put in. While PSG have demonstrated their eye for goal throughout the tournament by scoring a total of 33 goals, it should also be noted that against tougher opposition, their defence seems to crack regularly. The games against Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Arsenal clearly show this, but they also reveal that, unlike in previous years, this iteration of PSG seems to have a better mentality and does not crumble as easily. The stark improvement in this aspect could also be attributed to Luis Enrique.
Inter Team News
Inter’s road to the final was surely a dramatic one. One needs to look no further than the semi-final tie with Barcelona, where Francesco Acerbi scored a late equaliser to send the tie to extra time. The Nerazzurri have shown that they can be a force in attack, while also maintaining a solid defence. Before the knockout stages of the tournament, Inter had conceded just one goal in the league phase, while scoring 11 themselves. In the playoffs, Simone Inzaghi’s team showcased their eye for goal and scored at least 2 goals in each of their fixtures from the playoff stages. But more importantly, Inter showed a winner’s mentality by never backing down, even against overwhelming odds. That, coupled with the fact that most of Inter’s starting XI have been playing with one another for a good amount of time, makes the Italians a dangerous and well-drilled adversary that will surely rely on experience to win the final.
Head-to-Head-Games
Oddly enough, PSG and Inter have never faced one another in an official fixture. They have played one another in friendly matches and the International Champions Cup, but the upcoming UCL final will be their first competitive clash.
PSG vs Inter Betting Prediction
For this game, my pick will be under 2.5 goals. I do not expect either team to go guns blazing here. Both PSG and Inter have demonstrated that they can punish mistakes and score from nothing. Both sides have strong starting XIs that don’t have any real weaknesses. In such cases, it is far more likely that both sides adopt a carefully calculated and methodical game. This might ultimately be in Inter’s favour, though, as they have shown an overall better defence than PSG.
Another aspect is that UCL finals in recent years have tended to produce a low number of goals. All of the last 6 finals failed to pass the over 2.5 mark, with only last year’s final even passing over 1.5 goals.
